Little Field Lane Update
Please find the latest update from Somerset Highways shown below.
Published: 9 July 2026
Dear Holcombe Parish Council,
I have been requested by Cllr Sam Phripp to update about the road closure at Little Field Lane, Stratton on the Fosse.
The road was closed due to a section of the carriageway collapsing and the remainder flexing when trafficked as it had been undermined by Badgers, as I’m sure you are aware Badgers are a protected species so we are governed by legal requirements around levels of works and when these works are allowed.
This site has been passed to our Asset Management Team to design and undertake works in conjunction with advice from the Ecologist, the Sett as I understand it when it was inspected was considered to be live.
We are legally allowed to undertake works to repair the Highway between 1st July & 30th of November that is the current plan, I have no confirmed dates at this time as AMT are designing the solution, they are fully aware of the urgent need for these works and we are very hopeful that these works will be completed within this window so the road can be reopened.
That’s all the information I can give you at this time, further requests for information about this site would be best directed to HighwayProgramming@somerset.gov.uk who will be programming the works once designs are completed.
Hope that helps clarify the situation,
Many thanks,
Steve Palmer
